We are SO Late Jumping on the Netflix Bandwagon

Seriously...I've known what Netflix was for foreva. I did. But we never bought into it because we have cable and DVR. Who needs both? That just seems like overkill. Troy's Aunt was visiting last week and convinced us that we just HAD to get it. Especially since the first month is free. You guys know I can't resist free. Or a good deal. And $7.99 a month is a great deal. Especially for this new couch potato.

We decided not to get the actual DVD to the mail box, just the instant Netflix in the house, which we currently have wired through the Wii. Our Wii has gotten more action in the past week than it has in the past 2 years. Seriously.

So far, we have watched a few movies, a few kid movies (for Avery of course...but who doesn't enjoy Disney classics?), and some series.

We are currently watching "Orange is the New Black," with is a Netflix original series. It's a little risque, but we are really enjoying it. I told my mom and she recommended another Netflix original series called, "House of Cards." I had NO idea that Netflix even HAD original series and apparently, they are starting to compete with networks like HBO and Showtime. So that's been a nice surprise.

Who else has Netflix? How long have you had it? Do you still have cable? And MOST IMPORTANTLY: What are you watching? Recommendations?

Now that I'm not working, Avery's nap time and early bedtime (7pm muahahaha) have been Netflix exploring time. Move over DVR...you're getting put on hold for the rest of the summer. Until Parenthood starts up. And New Girl. And Big Bang Theory. When does the fall line up start again?

  1. We got rid of our cable in favor of Netflix and Hulu - we have watched Prison Break on netflix, loved it (we were obsessed, it's addicting), you can watch Felicity (that's more of a "I watch when Jon's gone so he doesn't have to watch chick shows" type show). The other thing we've been watching lately is Castle (although it's not on Netflix, so it's just a side note). But as we've found old seasons of things we're like "We might need our cable back in the fall" and your reminder about Parenthood and New Girl makes me really miss cable!

    1. I've been pretty excited about some of the "old shows" that you can watch the entire series of, I just can't make up my mind about what I want to start with! I think our next show is going to be "Breaking Bad." We have heard some really good things. I remember Prison Break...isn't that from the same makers as "Lost"?

AHHHH Parenthood and New Girl are the BEST!

  2. So... we ditched cable over 6 months ago, and it was the best decision we've made! We bought a $10 HD antenna and installed it in the attic (running the wires down through the wall) to avoid an obvious unsightly antenna in the living room. Honestly, it's the best picture we've had come through the tv. Amazing. We've had netflix for a long long time, but recently got rid of the streaming part. We just found ourselves lounging for way longer on the couch than was actually needed, therefore, putting off important stuff like keeping the grass mowed, tending to our child, etc. ;) We've narrowed ourselves to shows that only appear on our measly 10-ish channels, and movies from netflix. We found that once we let go of the cable shows, we didn't really miss them. We're still just as busy as ever, and spent less time on our butts. We have the one-at-a-time, unlimited option. And on a good month, we squeeze in about 6. Pretty darn good for not having to drive anywhere. Also, we NEVER go to the movies. Our nicer theaters are so freaking far away from our house- so there's the time investment to get there, cost of gas, the insane cost of tickets, having to pay a baby-sitter while we're out... and of course eating something, because our salivary glands can't take the torture. So we see the netflix as COMPLETELY justified. We have our own little date nights at home... plus, we can add in a little adult cocktail, wear comfy pjs (or really whatever the hell you want), and snuggle the pups. What could be better?! (Sorry if it sounds like I'm preaching about NOT watching tv, bc I'm not trying to! I LOVE me some shows, but we've also found that we can function without them, and I like having that power.)

    1. Hiya Aimee!

How hard was it to wire the antenna? Troy and I aren't the most "handy people" ever, so that sounds very adventurous to me! But you still get major sporting events since those are usually on networks right? That sounds good!

  3. We are excited about starting Breaking Bad. Troy LOVES Weeds. He watched almost all the seasons while he was deployed. I always wanted to watch Heroes when it started on TV, but it was like Once Upon a Time...it was too hard to follow if you missed an episode so watching on Netflix sounds like a great idea! We still hit up Redbox a couple times a month for new movies...so hopefully we can avoid the mail option. But who knows...once these babies come, I may NEVER leave the house!

  4. Totally missed your reply here. It's super super easy. You just need an extended cord that's the same as attached to the antenna that you buy. Yes, we def get sports. Usually ALLLLLL freaking day on Sunday, so I don't really watch tv on the weekends. Which we shouldn't anyways, right? Family time and all. Have Troy text Chris if he wants to do it. He can walk him through it.
